BRIDES-to-be are ditching traditional Saturday weddings and getting hitched on a weekday or Sunday to cut costs and avoid venue waiting lists.

Caterers, marriage celebrants and venue managers say couples are increasingly choosing weekdays, particularly Thursday and Friday, when the price for most services reduces markedly, to say I do”.

Rosslyn Park marriage celebrant Christopher Steele charges $165 for a ceremony on a weekday, compared to $349 on a Saturday and $297 on Sunday.

“I get a lot of people who get married mid week or on a Friday, many for the saving,” he said.

Sfera’s Park Suites and Convention Centre events manager George Caroscio said the business’s Cherish Package, which includes centrepieces, DJs, a three-course menu and a five-hour drinks package, is $115 per person on Saturday, compared to $100 per person on Friday.

Sabrina Randhawa, 24, and husband Kiran, 25, chose Friday, May 1, to tie the knot at Carrick Hill.

“It was the anniversary of our first date and it just happened to fall on a Friday,” Mrs Randhawa said. “It also gave us a chance to save a bit of money, which was a massive bonus.”
